Lee Hammond taught himself to make pizza when the pub needed a new reason for people to come through the door. He spent 6 months developing his Detroit-style pie and turned it into the food that kept The Towpath Inn going. Today, walkers, regulars and day-trippers travel from across Wales to eat it.
Book a TableCheese caramelises around the edge of each thick, rectangular Detroit pie, with the sauce spooned over the top. The 14-inch New York pizza comes out thin and crisp, with fries, dips and black garlic mayo alongside it.

Come in from the canal with muddy boots and the dog at your feet. Take a table by the water in summer or sit beside the fire when it turns cold, then split a Detroit and a New York while somebody orders another pint.
